Molly and I did some major HOITO-ING this weekend, and had some v. deep and serious discussions re: #publishinglyfe. We’d like to expand the magazine to include some stuff about feelings maybe? Something a bit more long-form? What do you want to see? Send us an email or a DM or a comment or whatever and let us know. WE WILL WRITE YOU BACK! About our feelings.
IN THE MEANTIME, Issue 8 is live and full of more than just things that cost money! Wait, no, all of these things cost money. Well whatever, only a few of them involve shopping.
As always, here are all the links to all the things:
You don’t need to be a genius to guess women are being seriously marginalized in the restaurant industry – only 20% of chefs are female and only 7% of head chefs. SEVEN PERCENT. WTF. And obviously they’re paid less than their male counterparts – 28 percent less, if you’re curious. In an industry where aggression and ego are overvalued, women are constantly UNDER-valued and passed by when opportunities arise. But GrubHub hopes to change that with the RestaurantHER initiative. For the month of March, in honor of Women’s Appreciation Month, they’ll be donating $1 (up to $1 MILLION) for each pledge we make to dine at or order from a woman-owned restaurant. And they’ve provided a map to all restaurants in your area to make it super easy. It’s the coolest thing, AND it’s the brainchild of my dear friend, Jessica Burns. I’m so blown away by this. *HEART EYES* Anyway, make sure you click on that link and get some of that #pledgelyfe.
A sweet reader wrote in and asked what to do about her depressing winter skin. Obviously she should first get rid of all of it. (Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Age-Defying Exfoliator $79), then stick with water-based products (Bioderma Sensibio H20 cleanser $14.90), then serum-always serum (Eau Thermale Avène Hydrance Optimale Hydrating Serum $38), and then slather all over with this fascinating gel moisturizer (B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Gel $52).
OH! Molly and I found a new bar! We stopped by Ludlow Liquors (2959 N. Milwaukee Ave.) in Chicago’s Avondale neighborhood, and we actually squealed something about being precious babies when we were there. We LOOKED like newborns under perfect rose-colored lights AND we were kind of the exact right age to be our best selves. Everyone seemed 30’s/40’s, and if any 20-year-olds snuck in, they were v. mature. The drinks are strong, but they come in three sizes, so babies can be babies. RECOMMENDED.
And then … the face cupping. Obviously Farah Dhukai (@farahdhukai) is a gorgeous model queen, and OBVIOUSLY we all want to look like her, but … just … if you want to try it, here you go (LURE Glam Face cupping kit $24.14). That price looks v. suspicious to me, by the way. The WHOLE THING is v. suspicious. But, of course, if you do it, REPORT BACK. #facecuppingreporterlyfe.
