I am living for all the embellished shoes right now. But I am not affording them. (I did find a sweet pair of velvet Roger Viviers at a Last Call store closing, thank you fringe sizes!!) The Miu Mius, the Pradas, the Guccis. They all cost the dollars. So, HOITOions, you know what we do! Welcome to The Lab.
You will need:
- One pair of boring shoes. I used a hot pink pair of Qupids that I scooped at Charlotte Russe in a gala emergency and never wore.
- Faux Fur Fabric
- Needle and thread
- All the sequins you can find, the largest you can find.
These are ok. The color is great but then… BOOOORRRRINNNG.
Use felt to measure how much you need to cover. Much easier than trying to eyeball this with the fur. Once you have your template, cut your faux fur.
The fur I got is real long, and I highly recommend a long pile, BUT. You don’t want to cut straight across the whole piece of fun or you’ll cut all the top of the fur. Comb it back and cut just the fabric backing.
That will hide that you cut it, but I wanted to hide the edge too, so I tacked back the very top. Fold over the top quarter inch and sew down.
OOH. That helps. I had many sequins lying around, all blues and crystals and all kinds of sparkly. I thought the enormous silver ones would be too much but I was wrong. I added all the things that I thought were too much and continued to be wrong. IT WAS JUST RIGHT. Sew on as many sequins as you’d like in a haphazard way.
Sew on felt tabs at all the corners. Slide onto shoes and sew down. I also used super glue on the bottom loops to keep the panel where I wanted it.
OH, FINALLY. Not boring!!!
Do they look good on, tho?
Total cost: $30 ish bucks. A STEAL. Really couldn’t be happier.
OH yeah, another thing. Friends are the best for lots of reasons but I was thinking about another one today. I don’t really know how to sew. I can’t design anything. I like things but I can’t make things. And I’ve been watching Veronica, co-head hoition, making herself an ENTIRE NEW WARDROBE and I though… hmmmm…. Maybe I could try a little something? And the sewing is far from perfect and these look RIDICULOUS but I love them! Look to your ladies for the little pushes. Friends are the coolest.
