Lest you compare your own bod, know this: Molly has a tan, Veronica has a spray tan and the technician missed all around the back of her armpits, the image is color-corrected, and we smoothed out the wrinkles left by our undies in Photoshop. And Veronica’s toenail polish was so chipped that she had to fill that in in Photoshop too. // Image by Anjali Pinto, Makeup by Shannon O’Brien
No longer able to rock whatever lycra mess is hanging on the clearance rack at Forever 21? That’s GREAT. There’s so much more fun to be had now anyway.
Are we too old for this? Let’s get dressed and find out. Paper Dolls is an ongoing series where we’ll virtually try on new outfits, like good bloggers, and experiment with high- and low-cost fashion risk-free. Today, Veronica is dressing Molly in pieces she’s craving. Molly is dressing Veronica in items she’s flagged for herself.
ON MOLLY: COAT – LOEIL, VINTAGE BLOUSE – ETSY, TROUSERS – ZARA, SNEAKERS – CONVERSE // ON VERONICA: DRESS – MYRTLE, SHOES – SOL SANA
V: So …. have you had a chance to look at your dressed up paper doll?
M: I LOVE IT SOOOO MUCH … i look so coooooool
V: i dressed you in a coat, because you need one IRL. Also, I want that coat so bad. [editor: Molly is actually walking around in 10 degree Chicago weather in a tiny leather fashion jacket. Molly, you are old enough to know better!]
M: its soooo pretty … those pockets
V: ugh. the pockets. everything.
M: i do need [a coat]. im freezing today. and this plane is freezing my feet are cold and im starving! how did i get here? [editor: Molly is on a plane.]
V: SO. business time: WOULD YOU WEAR THAT OUTFIT?
M: YES I WOULD. so you for the win. i thought i looked GREAT. especially right under me in that bodysuit eek!
V: are you kidding??? you look amaze in that bodysuit!
You know that i … would not wear [my outfit]. I would definitely wear the sweatshirt/cocoon dress with skinnies, but my bare calves look granny. I don’t have your beautiful runner’s legs.
M: omg. your legs are smoking!
V: … and i can’t wear those shoes. but that’s a real life thing – my feet are too big, i would look like a centaur. HOWEVER, i do love the sweatshirt and would wear it layered with five million other things.
Okay, so Molly loved her Veronica outfit, Veronica loved Molly’s weirdo giant sweatshirt, but HELLO, WHY ARE WE TRASHING OUR BODS AND LEGS? Except for my feet – they really are too big for those shoes and my height (size 8.5/9 and 5’4″ with skinny calves). No shame. Just fact. Our very first task and we failed our mission.
Are we too old for these outfits? NO. WE LOOK GREAT. And we will do better.
